Electoral Finance Act Submitters: Please don’t learn anything from last time

Twelve NZers thought fairness was more important than the right to free speech during election campaigns, and only six submitters did not:

§ Twelve submissions said that equity is more important than freedom of speech, while only six placed freedom of speech at the top of the pile, with equity below it.

Which reads like the punchline to a joke about inbred Noo Ziilanders who have totally lost their minds. These nutters are arguing one of two things: A) freedom of speech is really important most of the time but suddenly at election time it becomes unimportant, or B) Freedom of Speech is not really that important. I’m hoping the Committee does not mistake ‘quantity’ of submissions for quality….
